Public Health School Without Walls: A Report of Network Activities 2001-2002

The Rockefeller Foundation supported this project. The objective of the project was to prepare an inventory of public health institutions in Asia and Africa. A team of 4 members, two from Asia and two from Africa was constituted to coordinate the activities of this project. Achutha Menon Centre was given the responsibility to prepare the inventory of institutions in the Asia Region and School of Public Health Pretoria, South Africa was to prepare the inventory in the Africa Region. The AMCHSS concentrated its activities in India and countries of the South East Asia Region. The information compiled included name and address of institutions offering postgraduate training programs in public health, name of the course, annual intake and the source of funding. The inventory was published as a book along with the public health schools network activities in the reporting year. A website was also created (www.amchss.org/phswow) as part of this project. As planned in the project the website was merged with the institution website as soon as the project was completed. The directory of public health schools with contact addresses should enable the institutions to collaborate and establish linkages with one another. The website will be useful in making contact between institutions and share resources. Work in the Africa Region is still progressing.
